Timeline and Map View
Timeline view gives you a clear picture of each technician's day — when they clocked in, what jobs they worked, what breaks they took, and where they were. Pair it with the map panel to see location data alongside the timeline.

How to Open Timeline View
- Navigate to Office > Time
- Set the date using the arrow buttons or date picker
- Click the Timeline tab
The timeline displays one row per technician, showing their clock entries in chronological order from left to right.
Understanding Entry Types
The timeline shows four types of entries, each with a different appearance. Clicking any entry opens its detail view.
| Entry Type | What It Shows | Opens |
|---|---|---|
| Day Clock | Shift start and end times | Employee Time Clock detail |
| Job Clock | Time spent on a customer job | Timesheet detail with job info |
| Event Clock | Time at meetings, training, or other events | Event Clock detail |
| Break | Lunch, rest, or other breaks | Break Clock detail |
Scheduled entries that haven't been clocked yet appear differently from actual recorded entries. You can click a scheduled-only entry to create a clock record and prefill the technician and date.
Why a technician on time off doesn't show as scheduled
A technician with approved time off, a sick or holiday day, or an excused or unexcused absence for the date shows that status (for example Time Off or Excused) under their name instead of a scheduled shift. Their row still appears so you can add a clock record if they worked after all. To change or remove the absence, click the status under the technician's name in Timeline view, or use Edit schedule on the row in Table view. This opens that day's schedule entry, where you can change the status or times, or delete it. Editing an absence this way needs the permission to manage technician schedules — if the status isn't clickable for you, ask an administrator to grant it.
Viewing Entry Details
Click any entry on the timeline to open its detail view in a side panel. The detail view shows:
- Start and end times for the entry
- Duration calculated automatically
- Status (completed, in progress, or pending)
- Job or event information (for job clocks and event clocks)
- Notes added by the technician or office staff
From the detail view, you can edit times directly (if your role allows) or submit a time-change request for manager review.
Requesting a Time Correction
When you spot an error in a technician's times:
- Click the entry that needs correction
- In the detail view, choose the correction action
- Enter the corrected start and end times
- Add a reason explaining why the change is needed
- Click Submit to send the request for review
A manager or administrator will review and approve or deny the request. The original times are preserved until the correction is approved.
Using the Map Panel
The map panel shows geolocation data for clock events, letting you see where technicians clocked in, clocked out, arrived at jobs, and departed.
How to Open the Map
- While in Timeline view, click the Map toggle or panel button
- The map appears alongside the timeline
Link Mode
Enable Link to connect the timeline and map:
- Hover over a technician's row in the timeline to highlight their locations on the map
- Click a map pin to see details about that clock event
- This makes it easy to verify that a technician was at the right location at the right time
Map Controls
- Address search — type any address in the box in the top-left corner of the map to jump to that location, for example to check a customer's street against where a technician clocked in.
- Map style — the layers button in the top-right corner switches between Street and Satellite views. Your choice is remembered the next time you open a map.
Map Sidebar
The map sidebar lists clock events as a scrollable list. Click any event to zoom the map to that location and open its detail view. This is helpful when reviewing routes or checking the order of stops during the day.
Location Detail
Click any pin on the map to open a detail drawer showing:
- The type of clock event (day clock, job arrival, departure, etc.)
- The exact timestamp
- The address or coordinates
- A link to the related timesheet entry
GPS Trail
If your company has the GPS Breadcrumb Trail feature on, a GPS trail checkbox in the map's filter bar overlays the path recorded by a technician's phone during their shift, in addition to the clock-event pins above. See GPS Breadcrumb Trail.
Mobile Behavior
On mobile devices, the Timeline view displays as team-grouped cards instead of the full desktop timeline. You can still:
- Switch dates using the arrow buttons
- Tap entries to open their detail view
- Submit time-change requests
- View entry information
The URL preserves your selected date and view, so switching between mobile and desktop keeps your place.
Tips and Best Practices
- Use Timeline first when reviewing a specific technician's day — it gives the best chronological context.
- Enable Link mode when investigating disputed times or location questions.
- Check scheduled vs actual entries to spot missed clock-ins early in the day.
- Keep the map panel open when reviewing high-volume routes or field teams with many stops.
- Use the map sidebar to quickly scan events without zooming around the map manually.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Clicked an entry but the wrong detail view opened | Each entry type opens its own detail view. Verify you clicked the intended entry — day clocks, job clocks, breaks, and events all look slightly different on the timeline. |
| Map is open but nothing highlights when hovering | Make sure Link is enabled in the map panel. Highlighting only works when Link mode is active. |
| Cannot submit a correction request | Your role may not have permission to create time-change requests. Contact your administrator to check your access. |
| Map shows no pins for a technician | The technician may not have location tracking enabled, or their device did not report location data for that day. |
| Timeline looks empty for a date | Check that technicians were scheduled and clocked in for that date. Also verify your team or office filter is not excluding them. |
